Studio Sessions

My Darlington Studio is a simple and beautiful space in my home that is filled with an abundance of natural light. If you are looking for a more classic, studio look for your images, with a focus on connection, portraits and all the tiny details, this is the perfect space for you.

Studio Sessions are perfect if:

  • You are wanting to capture elegant portraits and teeny-tiny details over lifestyle images, in a warm and cosy space without the worry of having to organise more then getting yourselves ready and out the door. Arriving at the studio is simple with very easy parking and at the studio I have everything you need, including access to all the dresses in my client wardrobe (and some), newborn knits and blankets, water, tea, bathrooms, books and puzzles for kids and a backyard with some toy diggers and a swing that your partner can take your toddler outside to play with when their job is done. There is also a playground and cafe just down the road.
  • Your home doesn't have a lot of natural light, or has tinted windows. Whilst I haven't yet come across a home I couldn't photograph in, there are definitely homes on the darker side that limit the versatility of the images that we can create. One or two pockets of natural light is all the we need, but if you are worried about how dark your home is, the lighting is effected by weather, or that the best window is in the tiniest room, the studio is the perfect space for you, and is filled with light even on the dreariest of days.
  • Your home isn't your forever home, or doesn't suit the aesthetic you are hoping for in your photos ~ perhaps it is a new rental you have no real attachment to, renovating is on your to-do list, its a bit cluttered and messy and you don't want the stress of tidying up (I totally feel you!) or you want lovely clean portraits and your home doesn't have a clean wall in sight. The studio is perfect of you.
  • You don't want the stress of having to organise and tidy your home for a session and a morning out sounds lovely.

In-Home Sessions

There is something so beautiful and raw about capturing a family in their own home. While you only need one "good room" to capture beautiful images in your home, a lot of the beauty and draw to an in-home session comes from capturing your real life in your real home and all that that entails ~ family cuddles on the couch, the baby in their nursery, toddlers causing chaos and jumping on the bed, mama making a cup of tea, venturing into your garden, your very real newborn love bubble.

In-home sessions are perfect for you if:~

  • Your love your home! If your home is your happy place, its filled with fond memories and makes you feel relaxed and at peace then home is likely the best place for your session. Your home doesn't need to be perfect or even spotlessly clean, it just needs to have a few pockets of good natural light and be the backdrop that you are happy with.
  • You have another little human, or two, or three. If you have an outgoing toddler and can't imagine getting everyone dressed, ready and out the door, a session in your own home means that after starting with family and sibling photos, your toddler or other children can then go and play in their room, have a nap or snack or watch the tv and you don't need to worry about them. In-home sessions are also great for shy and reserved kiddies as being in their safe place can help them to warm up faster so their beautiful personality shines through in the images.
  • You really want to capture those delicate early days but aren't yet up for an outing.

Outdoor Sessions

An outdoor session is perfect for you if:~

  • You're a family full of adventure and even a newborn can't keep you cooped up inside! If the outdoors is your happy place and where your family spends the most time then there is absolutely no reason why your newborn shoot can't take place outdoors!
  • You have older children and are really wanting to capture images of your family as whole doing something together that you love or in a place you love, rather than a focus on baby portraits. We can absolutely capture some beautiful images just of baby, but outdoor sessions are lifestyle sessions and much more go with the flow and full of fun, laughter and games (it is worth keeping in mind here that an in-home or studio session will take around two hours with a focus on a very calm, sleeping baby while an outdoor session is capped at 1 hour ~ sunrise or sunset~ so we don't focus on getting baby to sleep but rather just take them as they come).
  • Your baby is a little bit older, or you are wanting to wait until baby is a bit older for your session. After those first few weeks, when bub is more awake and alert the outdoors can really be a perfect place to have your session. With more for baby to look at and engage with, the outdoors often brings a sense of calm and happiness to a baby and is the perfect backdrop of big smiles and giggles.
